IL Fiorello Olive Oil Company Celebrates a Successful Community Milling Day
IL Fiorello Olive Oil Company celebrated one of its most anticipated annual traditions this past Sunday, October 19, as 86 olive growers from across the region gathered in Suisun Valley for Community Milling Day — a day of connection, collaboration, and the shared joy of making olive oil together. This year, we milled a total of 16,419 lbs of olives!
Designed for growers with fewer than 1,000 pounds of olives, Community Milling allows participants to combine their harvests and create a unique Community Blend, a reflection of the region’s diverse olive varieties and the spirit of cooperation that defines the region.
“This event embodies what IL Fiorello stands for —great community, great oil, and great food,” said Ann Sievers, owner of IL Fiorello Olive Oil Company. “It’s such a joy to see growers from all over come together, share stories, and watch their olives become beautiful oil.”
Guests enjoyed live music by Eden Parker, beer from Mare Island Brewing Co., and farm-to-table lunches at IL Fiorello’s bistro, making the day as lively as it was meaningful. Guests also enjoyed gelato, olive oil tastings, tours of North America’s most advanced olive oil mill, and connecting with farmers from around the region.
Growers will be able to pick up their share of the Community Blend this week, taking home a piece of this year’s collective harvest and a reminder of the day spent among friends and fellow olive enthusiasts.
Olive growers who still have olives will be able to join us for a second Community Milling Day on November 23. Oil created on that day will be finished in time for Thanksgiving Dinner.
